WIM.Ug (Women in Motorsport Uganda) plays a crucial role in advocating for the empowerment and protection of women in the motorsport community in Uganda. As the organization seeks to promote the involvement of women in a field that has historically been dominated by men, it has become increasingly aware of the challenges women face not just on the racetrack but in the digital space as well. Online abuse and sexual harassment are serious issues that disproportionately affect women, especially those in the public eye or male-dominated fields like motorsport.

Key Components of the Sexual Harassment Service:

  1. Awareness Campaigns
    • Educational Workshops: Regular workshops and training sessions will be conducted to educate members, stakeholders, and the community about sexual harassment, its impact, and how to prevent it.
    • Public Awareness Campaigns: Through social media, partnerships with media outlets, and public events, WIM.UG will raise awareness about sexual harassment in the motorsport industry, focusing on prevention and promoting a culture of respect.
  2. Clear Reporting Mechanisms
    • Confidential Reporting Channels: WIM.UG will establish confidential and accessible channels (e.g., online platforms, hotlines, and in-person support) for individuals to report instances of sexual harassment without fear of retaliation.
    • Third-Party Reporting: To ensure impartiality, third-party organizations may be involved in handling sensitive cases, providing an additional layer of security and trust.
  3. Support for Victims
    • Counseling and Mental Health Support: Victims of sexual harassment will have access to professional counseling and mental health services to help them process the trauma and receive emotional support.
    • Legal Support: WIM.UG will provide or refer victims to legal support services that guide them through the legal processes, ensuring that their rights are protected.
    • Peer Support Networks: The organization will foster a peer support network, where women can share experiences and offer emotional support to one another.
  4. Training and Prevention Programs
    • Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: Mandatory training for all members of the motorsport community, including organizers, team members, and event staff, on how to identify, prevent, and address sexual harassment.
    • Bystander Training: Empowering individuals to act if they witness or suspect harassment, providing them with the tools to intervene and report.
  5. Policy Development and Advocacy
    • Sexual Harassment Policies: WIM.UG will develop and implement a comprehensive sexual harassment policy that outlines clear procedures for dealing with harassment cases, ensuring that all incidents are taken seriously and handled appropriately.
    • Policy Advocacy: WIM.UG will advocate for strong anti-harassment policies in motorsport institutions, partnering with national and international bodies to ensure that sexual harassment is addressed effectively across all levels of the motorsport industry.
  6. Safe Spaces and Zero-Tolerance Culture
    • Safe Spaces at Events: WIM.UG will ensure that events, such as races or workshops, have designated safe spaces for women to report harassment or seek refuge if they feel threatened.
    • Zero-Tolerance Campaigns: Promoting a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment, WIM.UG will ensure that the motorsport community understands that such behavior is not acceptable and will be met with strong consequences.
  7. Ongoing Evaluation and Feedback
    • Regular Monitoring: WIM.UG will monitor the effectiveness of its sexual harassment programs through regular surveys, feedback sessions, and incident tracking to ensure continuous improvement and responsiveness.
    • Victim Feedback: Encouraging those affected by sexual harassment to provide feedback on the services they received, ensuring that any gaps in support or service can be addressed.
