Motorsport has long been perceived as a male-dominated arena, but a new wave of trailblazing women is challenging stereotypes and redefining the landscape in Uganda. At Women in Motorsport Uganda (WIM), we believe that motorsport should be accessible to everyone—regardless of gender. Our mission is to empower women to take the driver’s seat in a field where they have often been sidelined, both literally and figuratively.
Breaking Barriers, One Lap at a Time
In Uganda, Women in motorsport are overcoming societal expectations and institutional hurdles to excel in racing, mechanics, and leadership roles. From the roar of the engines on race day to the precise coordination behind the scenes, women are proving that they have what it takes to compete at the highest levels.
Yet, their journey hasn’t been without challenges. Entrenched stereotypes often portray motorsport as too dangerous or physically demanding for women. These outdated notions not only limit opportunities but also undermine the immense potential women bring to the sport. We are here to change that narrative.
